How to register on SeanadVoter.ie as a new applicant

Step 1: Find the Application Portal
On the home page of SeanadVoter.ie, find the section ‘New applicant for the Seanad Éireann Higher Education constituency’.
Click ‘Apply Now’.

Step 2: Review the Registration Criteria
On the Introduction page, review the eligibility criteria. You must be:
  1. A citizen of Ireland, and
  2. Be 18 years of age or older, and
  3. Hold a degree from a designated institution.
Make sure you are eligible to apply and have the documents you need ready before starting your application. You will be prompted to upload supporting documents for your citizenship; guidance for this can be found below under ‘Personal Details’.
Click ‘Continue with Application’.

Step 3: Fill in the Registration Form
The form has four sections:
  • First Name(s) and Surname: Enter your current name.
  • Former Name or Other Names: Enter your name at time of graduation. This information will not be published on the Register of Electors but may help identify your record. You may have used your name in Irish or used a different surname.
  • Current Email Address: use a current email address that you check regularly.
  • Citizenship: Upload a document for proof of citizenship (PDF or JPG, max 16MB). Accepted documents include:
    1. Photo page of valid Irish passport
    2. or
    3. Certificate of Naturalisation
  • PPS Number: Provide either:
    1. Your PPSN (Personal Public Service Number
    2. or
    3. A completed Witness Form (attach PDF or JPG, max 16MB)
  • You must provide a current address and an address for ballot papers. These can be the same address. Both addresses will be published on the Register of Electors.
  • You may enter up to two degrees for verification.
  • You will be asked for the following details of your degree:
    1. Verifying Body: The institution that holds the record of your qualification.
    2. Institution Attended: The specific university, college, or institution where you studied.
    3. Year of Graduation: The year when you graduated or had your conferring ceremony.
    4. Full Title of Degree: The name of your academic qualification (e.g. BA in History, MSc in Nursing, PhD in Biology).
    5. Student Number: Optional, if available.
  • If you are a graduate of NUI, TCD, or both, and wish to be included to vote in any arising bye-elections for these constituencies, select the corresponding checkbox(es) for NUI and/or TCD.
  • Carefully review and confirm both declarations.
Fill in all mandatory fields on all sections marked with an asterisk (*).
Submit your application.

Step 4: Submit the Application
Once all sections are complete, submit the application.
You will receive an acknowledgment email confirming your submission.


How to register on SeanadVoter.ie as an applicant currently on the NUI and/or Trinity College Dublin Register of Electors

Step 1: Find the Application Portal
On the home page of SeanadVoter.ie, find the section ‘Applicant currently on the NUI and/or Trinity College Dublin Register’.
Click ‘Apply Now’.

Step 2: Review the Registration Criteria
On the Introduction page, review the eligibility criteria. You must be:
  1. A citizen of Ireland, and
  2. Be 18 years of age or older, and
  3. Hold a degree from a designated institution.
Make sure you are eligible to apply.
Make sure you have your NUI Reference Number and/or TCD Alumni Number ready before starting your application.
Click ‘Continue with Application’.

Step 3: Fill in the Registration Form
The form has four sections:
  • You will be asked which Register of Electors you are currently listed on. Select the National University of Ireland, or Trinity College Dublin, or both.
  • Enter your NUI Reference Number and/or TCD Alumni Number.
  • If you wish to be included to vote in any arising bye-elections for these constituencies, select the corresponding checkbox(es) for NUI and/or TCD.
  • First Name(s) and Surname: Enter your current name.
  • Former Name or Other Names: Enter your name at time of graduation. This information will not be published on the Register of Electors but may help identify your record. You may have used your name in Irish or used a different surname.
  • Current Email Address: use a current email address that you check regularly.
  • PPS Number: This will help confirm your identity details and help to protect the integrity of the register.
  • You must provide a current address and an address for ballot papers. These can be the same address. Both addresses will be published on the Register of Electors.
  • Carefully review and confirm both declarations.
Fill in all mandatory fields on all sections marked with an asterisk (*).
Complete each section of the form.
Submit your application.

Step 4: Submit the Application
Once all sections are complete, submit the application.
You will receive an acknowledgment email confirming your submission.
